A unique opportunity to join an escorted trek through the remote region of Humla in Western Nepal to reach the most sacred mountain in the world – Mt Kailash, the home of Shiva. Very few trekkers have passed this way and only a few permits each year are granted into this secluded region. Completely cut off by snow from November to April, this summer trek is unaffected by Nepal’s monsoon season.
Kailash is considered the holiest mountain on earth by several faiths and religions. For millennia, monks, yogis and pilgrims from all over the world have braved unimaginable hardships to reach this abode of gods. Its exceptional isolation and the peculiar contours of black granite that give it the appearance of a Shivalinga have caused Kailash to be venerated as a place that is representative of Shiva.
This extraordinary journey takes you through the hidden Humla valley in Nepal's western-most Tibetan frontier and to Tibet's mythical Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar.
To begin this pilgrimage we start by taking the flight to Simikot in Nepal's remote Humla District. From here our trek follows the ancient salt trading and pilgrimage route towards the Nara Langa pass and to the border trade post at Taklakot. We drive overland north past Gurla Mandata mountain to the shores of Lake Manasarovar and Rakshas Tal Lake and on to the settlement of Darchen situated at the foot of Mt. Kailash.
We then make the 'kora' (holy walk) trek of the mountain sharing the trail with other pilgrims that head for Kailash during the summer months. After completing this trek we will camp by the banks of Lake Manasarovar and then drive eastwards by jeep along the mighty Zangpo River and through the vastness of the Tibet Plateau. Enjoy fantastic mountain views of the Himalayas as we journey south towards the border town of Zangmu to re-enter Nepal at the Friendship Bridge. This exclusive journey is designed for travelers in search of a cultural and spiritual understanding amidst the splendor of the Himalayan mountain range.
This is rigorous trekking, camping and overland driving through remote and wild western Nepal and Tibet, from 2,745m (9,000ft) to 4,880m (16,000ft) and hiking to a maximum of 5600m (18,400ft). Fully supported trek with all camping equipment, led by an experienced guide
